My question is using the Alpha Isochronic Tones- it says not to use while driving or working. But what about listening while you study? I’m studying for a rather difficult exam and I’m looking for something to use while actually learning/reading the material for focus, concentration & comprehension. Thanks! And are the Alpha tones the best tones for this?
While it is no doubt that the technology does create changes in a person’s brain waves, whether there are valid scientific benefits resulting from those changes is up for debate. Self-reports from those that have engaged in various types of brainwave entrainment have made claims such as: the software helped treat my depression or improved my mental focus. These claims are often vague and could be subjective and/or a placebo effect.
Thanks Lorita. There hasn’t been any isochronic tones research that I’m aware of, for anti-aging, fat loss or attracting people, or any significant anecdotal feedback. You could combine positive affirmations or hypnosis scripts with isochronic tones to try and change habits and that could help with fat loss or build confidence to attract people. But it would be the affirmations and hypnosis doing most of the work, the isochronic tones would just be used to help relax the listener and put them in a more suggestible state. I don’t believe isochronic tones can affect those things, without being used in combination with some kind of vocal mental programming.

The two drawbacks: time and money. It takes a full hour everyday for months, and you can drop quite a bit of cash on it (each level costs around $200 for the digital download version and more for the actual CDs). A level takes a minimum of 6 months to complete, so you have to remain dedicated to see the results. Quite an investment, so you'd need to be in it for the long haul. Great support and service, though.
True on your point about diminishing returns. It is like dieting. The bulk of the weight comes off at the beginning and then you lose a pound or so if you are diligent. Yes you lose the high of the original gains but you don’t receive more gains because you are in a better place. I am a big believer in data. When the gains begin to be less obvious a daily entry of how your emotional state was (1-10) and naming something you are grateful for goes a long ways. I guarantee a person will overall be in a better place on average. As always, thanks for your contributions Daniel.
So discovering the field of Brainwave Entrainment is very exciting and promising. However intriguing, there are a few things that make me a bit sceptical towards it. F.i. I’m not too keen on having to rely on any external stimuli, as (regular) meditation is one of the very few things where you are absolutely independent from anything external to make a change within, which to me makes it so special.
Controlled or pre/post studies of the effects of BWE using auditory or visual stimulation were eligible for inclusion, provided pulses of light or tone were delivered at frequencies hypothesised to have a beneficial effect or in line with a protocol addressing clinical outcomes. Studies were required to report clinical or psychological outcomes (measured using standard methods or as deemed appropriate by peer review) and to report statistical analysis. Studies of outcomes such as electroencephalogram (EEG) response or neurotransmitter levels were not eligible. Case studies were excluded.
According to both observation and research, after a series of brainwave entrainment practices, the brain learns how to state change. This enables you to achieve certain brainwave effects in the absence of entertainment. Additionally, research shows that children are usually in the Theta stage and this in itself could provide a detailed explanation for their ability to learn fast and remember what they have learned. We can take advantage of this effect and use Alpha and Theta waves to reduce learning time in adults.

Stress: In one randomized controlled trial with 108 participants, a single session of alpha and delta stimulation resulted in significantly less anxiety in surgical patients. Another session of theta stimulation resulted in improvement in certain measures of stress. The evidence presented appeared to justify the recommendation for further research. In view of the lack of controlled evidence and problems with methodology and reporting in the review, the authors’ conclusions regarding efficacy did not appear reliable.
