Thank you for the info. I must add that the Yoga Nidra state is the state in which a person can be in Delta but fully conscious. I did experience this state accidentally 3x in 2yrs after discovering Swami Rama’s teachings about the state&1 of the techniques for it(only 4 seems to exist & are practiced in monasteries at the time,according to him. He was the yogi who 1st demonstrated the 4 states,fully aware of himself & his surroundings, under lab conditions).

The phenomena of brainwave entrainment was first described in the scientific literature in 1973 by Gerald Oster in results published in an article in Scientific American entitled, “Auditory Beats in the Brain”. He showed that a specific brainwave could be induced when a person heard two separate, but closely related, sound frequencies, one in each ear. He discovered that when the frequencies heard by each ear differed by about 10 hertz, the brainwave pattern of the person hearing the sound would synchronize to the difference between the two frequencies. For example, if the person heard a 410 hertz sound in one ear and a 400 hertz sound in the other ear, their brainwaves would stabilize at the difference between the two, or 10 hertz. This technique is called binaural beats, and it is a fundamental principle of brainwave entrainment methods.

I have read something different about theta waves and learning languages. A University of Washington study tested students resting brainwave activity before learning French. They found that students with a higher amount beta/gamma and a lower amount of delta/theta activity were better at acquiring a second language. When you are dominant in theta, that is the lowest and most deeply relaxed awakened state you can be in. I think it would be much harder to really concentrate, fully understand and learn new information while in a theta state, so I would personally consider using theta while studying.

My question is using the Alpha Isochronic Tones- it says not to use while driving or working. But what about listening while you study? I’m studying for a rather difficult exam and I’m looking for something to use while actually learning/reading the material for focus, concentration & comprehension. Thanks! What I really like about iAwake is their standalone offerings. They produce quite a few audio pieces that are geared toward specific brainwave targets and desired results. These individual products aren't progression - based (you can listen to whatever tracks you want whenever you want), so there's no lengthy investment of your time involved. Also they're way cheaper (around $30-$50 depending on the product). In addition to manipulating brainwaves with sound, they pride themselves on their patented Biofield tech (look them up for more info).
That is very interesting to hear. I have also been an avid user of Holosync for long periods of my life. Were you progressing through the levels? I do know that Holosync in particular is designed for each level to push the brain to grow a “tolerance” to its effects. Once this happens the brain and nervous system has reached a new level of resiliency and is ready for the next level of the program, where the carrier frequencies are lower and more profound effects begin again. Regarding the pulse-like sound you’ve been hearing, I’ve never had anyone report something similar to that before. I also haven’t heard anyone on brainwave entrainment forums mention it. That is very unusual and because I’ve never come across it before, I’m afraid I don’t know what would cause that.

So discovering the field of Brainwave Entrainment is very exciting and promising. However intriguing, there are a few things that make me a bit sceptical towards it. F.i. I’m not too keen on having to rely on any external stimuli, as (regular) meditation is one of the very few things where you are absolutely independent from anything external to make a change within, which to me makes it so special.


Behavior problems: In two separate studies with a total of 57 children, it was found that brainwave entrainment was able to significantly improve behavior problems. One of these studies was conducted on children with ADHD and determined that they significantly improved not only in regards to attention deficits, but also in their behavior. Both parents and teachers reported statistically significant improvements in how the children behaved.
